It’s a great day!
Today, my Patreon goes live. Patreon is basically a crowd-funded, artist support site where fans can donate a dollar or so every time an artist puts up work, and cap it at $5 or $10 monthly just in case the artist accidentally has a really prolific month (one can dream). It’s making a lot of waves throughout the creative community as people abandon their Adsense accounts in favor of just making more art and putting it out there.
Obviously, people with a large follower base are probably going to do the actual money-making, whereas my profile is more an exercise in self-promotion and just seeing where it goes. Still, I’d be beyond grateful if any of you could muster up a couple bucks and donate. If not, no big deal.
There are some pretty rad built-in incentives, like getting to download all of my art in hi-res, print-ready format, access to the secret nether regions of Patreon’s Patron infrastructure, and other perks and tangible bonuses for anyone who donates. I’ll still be posting pretty much every thing I do on here, so nothing dramatically will change in your life if you’re not interested in donating. I’m not one of those guys.
For the more visually inclined, I explain the whole system much better in this video:
Warning: This video is extremely serious and does not contain any of the following: Gratuitous tiny biceps, unsolicited indie clothing plugs, unsolicited brother cameos, unsolicited cat cameos, epic ceratopsian of dubious genera deaths; badly dubbed flute playing; or potentially problematic DCMA violations. I just want to be clear that none of those things are in my super serious Patreon video.
So I implore you to go check it out, see what Patreon’s all about, and decide if it’s something you’d like to support. There are tons of people putting out free content on there, quite a few of them are doing some pretty amazing things, so I promise it’s worth a look.
Cheers and thank you, as always, for reading!
